Puerto Chacabuco, Chile - Sea Days - Update with pictures.

Tuesday we will arrive in Puerto Chacabuco.  The morning will be a sea day.  We were scheduled to arrive at 11 am but not until 1pm now.  The cruise into the area is through the fjords.  The views are wonderful.  But the day is overcast.

When we arrived the Ocean Princess was already here.  We sailed on the Ocean Princess in Asia several years ago.  The Ocean Princess has been sold to Oceania and this is the last trip as a Princess Cruise.  In April it will be renamed Sirena and sail for Oceania Cruises.

We had a quiet day.  We did swim in the afternoon.  We had decided not to go on tour as yesterday was more that we needed.  We felt today would be more of the same.

Bob did take some pictures of the area and I will try and post them later.

One of the last pictures of the Ocean Princess before she becomes the Oceania Sirena.

This area you sail close to the shore.  Not much in this area of the world.  The fjords of Norway have some land on the water where there might be cabins.  Not here.  The hills go right down to the water.

Weather has not been good for us this trip.  Rain, rain and more rain.  Not much activity on the deck.  They drained the pool because of the motion. That occurred on Wednesday.  At times you must travel outside of the fjord area because it is not safe so you go back out to the Pacific Ocean itself and it is rough.

The major industry in this part of Chile is salmon farming.  This is one of the farms you see along the way.

More views.

Here we did see some homes.  Not sure why anyone would want to live here.  Nice to look at from the warmth of our cabin.

Even had some snow covered peaks.

Tomorrow is another sea day so not much to tell.  The next stop will be in Punta Arenas, Chile and we will just tour around the city by ourselves.  One time when we were here with the Kitchens, we found a local restaurant that served the best crab.  So we will try and find another great meal.

Wednesday night we ate in Prime 7.  I ordered the seafood sampler but the waiter said it was small so he doubled it.  He must have felt I was a big eater but there was no way I could finish all that food.  Two lobster tails, four king crab legs, and two scallops.  What was he thinking?  Bob had the entire lobster which he enjoyed.  But no desserts for either of us.

Back to the suite where we finished watching "A Walk in The Woods'.  An okay movie.

Thursday morning we were scheduled to sail by the Amalia Glacier but the winds were too high and the Captain decided to skip it.  I am glad we did this cruise in 2012 as we did get to see the glacier up close and go around the horn.  Not sure we will do the same this year.  This Captain is very conservative.  But that may come from corporate.  At any rate, it is still an interesting cruise.  So Thursday is another sea day.  Rain and cold.  They did refill the pool but I am not going to exercise as it is raining and I do not want to get my head wet.  Bob is giving it a go.

Tonight we might try Sette Mari as the menu of Compass Rose is not that appealing.  And we have not gone to Sette Mari yet this cruise.  This is up in La Veranda at night and an Italian menu.

The show is before dinner so we might go.  Not sure yet.  We have seen them all before.
