Sunday is the second day here in Buenos Aires and it is also disembarkation/embarkation day. And because of the GI troubles last cruise, they will deep clean the entire ship. That means we that are continuing on the cruise have a choice. We can either take a tour (same one we did yesterday) or a highlights (did this several years ago), or we can take the shuttle into the city for three hours, or we can stay on the ship and sit in the Horizon Lounge for the entire time. We elected to take the shuttle.
We had a light breakfast on the aft deck of La Veranda. Then returned to the cabin to get our stuff together to take the 9:30am shuttle. The shuttle takes you to the Marriott Plaza Hotel which is in a great location.
We walked Florida Street. This is a pedestrian street with lots of shops and one small mall. But it being Sunday, nothing was opened this early. So we walked and stopped at an ATM to get some local money. Bob said to get 100 but he thought it was in dollars and not pesos. So I got 100 pesos that cost 91 pesos and it turns out to be about $5.00. I then tried at another ATM and the card would not work. Oh well.
We continued our walk and ended up at the Cathedral. This is the church where Pope Francis lead. We attended mass for the last part. A beautiful church. Very Greek on the outside and you do not realize it is the Cathedral until you enter. Then it is very Roman. This Cathedral contains the tomb of Jose de San Martin, Argentina's most revered historical figure. It is guarded by two soldiers.
We walked back to the Marriott and stopped at the same ATM where I got the 100 pesos and this time I was able to get some pesos. We wanted to take the hop on hop off and they only take pesos. Will do that tomorrow. Took the shuttle back to the ship and it is like a ghost ship for real. I think there were 12 of us on the ship. Some people decided to go to a hotel for the night and others are taking a side trip to the falls. And they did not allow the new passengers to board until around 2pm.
We had lunch at the pool grill and then sat in several lounges until the room was made up.
Decided to swim after Bob's nap. Did an hour. They finally allowed the new passengers into their suites at 4:30. Not much for them to do but drink so there might be some folks taking naps before dinner.
I will post this now and then tomorrow will enter the pictures. The buildings in this city are wonderful.
