We finally have made it to Rio. After spending four days in Santos, we set sail at around 4pm. Being in Santos that long has made some of the passengers a little testy. But all things considered, that was not such a bad place to be. At least we were docked and it is a fairly large city. But they did not allow us off the ship in the evenings. They said it was not safe. I think that is the area around the dock. The down town was quite nice. Lots of high rise condos.
Regent has decided to give everyone on this leg a 25% discount off a future cruise. Since we have just booked our anniversary cruise for 2017, I asked our TA if we could apply the discount to that cruise and not have to book an additional cruise. And it worked. This cruise has made us think twice about Regent. Although we have had a great time, the food is not what it used to be. So we are thinking of trying some other lines and do an educated comparison.
This morning sail into Rio was not as nice as the last time we were here. Today the skies are overcast and you can hardly see the statue of Christ the Redeemer. I feel bad for the people visiting for the first time. Maybe the weather will clear up before they leave the city.
Tomorrow is the last turn around day of this cruise. Most of the passengers will get off and an entire new group will arrive. Hope they are all feeling great.
Since we have been here before and done all the major sites, we will probably get a shuttle to down town and do some shopping. Our exercise gloves are falling apart. The pool is a combination of salt water and chemicals. Does ruin the gloves. Last time it ruined several of my bathing suits. This year I bought one that said it would last. So far, so good.
We got to swim in the morning for one hour. Most of the passengers are off sightseeing. So again we had the pool to ourselves.
In the afternoon, Bob went out to walk about the city while I stayed in the suite and watched a movie. This time I saw "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel". It was okay but helped pass the time away. Bob is in much better shape for walking than I am. And the weather is hot.
Had our cocktails in the Mariner Lounge and then dinner in Compass Rose. We asked to sit in Risky's section. We have figured out who her husband is. They have matching rings. He is Herman Garcia and he is a Head Waiter.
Started watching "Still Alice" but Bob decided to go to sleep as he thinks it is too depressing. Saved the movie and I will finish watching it while Bob does more exploring. Parts of this city are pretty rough. And he needs to be careful.
Day two started with a light breakfast in La Veranda. Lots of the folks are getting off. The pools are being cleaned and refilled so no swimming until around 11 am..
